The Power of Proclaim's Built-In Integration Tools: A Vehicle Data Case Study

Firms often assume connecting Proclaim to a third-party data provider means an expensive custom build. Here is a real example | live vehicle data pulled into a motor claim at the touch of a button | using nothing but Proclaim's own toolkit.

Most firms treat Proclaim as a closed system and reach for expensive custom middleware the moment they want it to talk to another platform. That is often unnecessary. Proclaim ships with its own integration toolkit, and for a large share of what firms actually need, it is enough on its own. Here is a real example: pulling live vehicle data into a matter at the touch of a button.

What Proclaim's toolkit already gives you

Proclaim's screen designer supports web service calls directly from a case screen. A button, a script, and a call out to a third-party API is functionality that already exists in the product, not something that has to be bolted on. Done properly, this lets a fee earner trigger a live data request from inside the matter and have the response written straight back into Proclaim's own fields and history, without leaving the screen they are already working on.

Firms often do not know this capability is there, or assume it needs a full custom integration project to use it. In most cases it does not. It needs someone who knows the toolkit well enough to configure it properly.

    The problem for motor practices

A motor claims or RTA team needs accurate vehicle data early and often: make, model, colour, engine size, MOT and tax status, mileage, and whether the vehicle carries a write-off marker. Before this was connected, that meant a fee earner leaving Proclaim, running a separate lookup against a vehicle data provider, and typing the results back into the matter by hand. Multiply that across every new claim, every engineer instruction, and every valuation query, and it is a steady drain on time that adds nothing to the file except data entry.

    What we built

We used Proclaim's own toolkit to add a single button to the relevant case screen. Click it, and Proclaim calls out to a vehicle data provider using the registration number already held on the matter, returns the result, and writes it straight into the matter's fields and history, with a timestamped record of when the check was run.

No separate login, no second screen, no copying and pasting a result out of one browser tab and into another. The fee earner stays inside the matter, and the data that comes back is immediately usable: engineer instructions can be drafted from it, valuations can reference it, and the history entry gives a clear audit trail of exactly what was checked and when.

The most valuable integrations are often the ones nobody notices, because the fee earner never had to leave Proclaim to begin with.

    The result

Time saved on every motor matter, fewer transcription errors from manual re-keying, and a live, timestamped record sitting in the case history rather than a screenshot or a printout filed away separately. None of this required a new platform or a lengthy integration project. It required Proclaim development that knew where to look inside the toolkit that was already there.

Why this matters beyond vehicle data

The same pattern applies wherever a firm needs live external data pulled into a matter: Companies House data for a corporate client, Land Registry results for a conveyancing file, or ID verification results for onboarding. The toolkit does not change. What changes is which API sits on the other end of the button, and how the data that comes back maps into Proclaim's own fields.

Firms considering this kind of integration are usually better served starting with an audit of what Proclaim's built-in toolkit can already do, before assuming a custom build or a third-party bolt-on is the only route.
